Race of child interested in adopting:African American, Caucasian/African American, African American/Hispanic and African American/Latino
Gender of child interested in adopting:No Preference
We are Michael and Keyana and we are sincerely honored for your consideration. We can only imagine what this process must be like for you and it is our prayer that you will take some comfort in knowing that our hearts go out to you and we are praying for you. We can't say enough how honored we are that you are considering us to nurture and love your child. We realize how difficult this decision must be. As hard as it is for us to believe, our journey to parenthood has made us stronger and we have even more love to give. If given the honor of becoming parents to your child, you can rest in knowing that your child will be loved. He or she will be given every opportunity that we can afford - especially educationally. We can't promise your child a perfect life - not even sure that there is such a thing - but we're committed to allow God to guide us in loving your child as much as you do. We can assure you that your child will laugh more than they will cry and we'll ensure your child knows how much you love them and wanted nothing but the best for them. Sincerely, Keyana & Michael
We have known each other for over 20 years (high school sweethearts) and we've been married over fifteen years. Our journey to become parents began nearly ten years ago. Like most, we never dreamed the process would take so long or be so painful. We've had three miscarriages, two at four weeks and one at 5 months. Even after learning that having a child naturally would be next to impossible for us, we still have a deep desire to be parents. We earnestly believe being a parent is our calling! Keyana grew up in a small town in Florida. Her family wasn't rich by any means, but her parents (who are still married today) gave her and her two siblings a lot of love and instilled in them a strong sense of family and faith. Those beginnings are what keep her grounded today and are a big reason she wants to give a child the same love and chance at life. Keyana has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical engineering and currently works as a Manufacturing Operations Manager (MOM) at a multinational corporation. As a MOM, she oversees manufacturing operations at 6 production facilities. Ultimately, her job is to ensure each site delivers products to customers on time and do so safely, compliantly, and in a cost efficient manner. Michael grew up in the same town as Keyana. His upbringing was humble and he's had to work hard, even putting himself through college. Michael has a soft spot for children, especially those who are underprivileged. He began working with juvenile delinquents after college and mentored many of them outside of "business hours". When Michael's nephew began to fall behind in school, we moved him from Florida to California to live with us for five years. During this time, his nephew was able to make up one grade level and reentered regular classes. Michael has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and currently works as a Special Investigator for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. As a Special Investigator, Mike is responsible for keeping the prisons safe and free of criminal activity. He investigates crimes committed in the prison. It is also important to know that we are Christian. We are active in our church which focuses on ensuring that members live balanced lives that honor God; lives that exemplify God's unconditional love. Your child will be grounded in these same morals.
We live in a quiet community, newly developed in 2014. It is extremely diverse with nice parks and a great view of the city. We live less than 5 miles from the beach and often take walks along the beach on Saturday mornings. There are plenty of nice schools and we already envision enrolling the baby in a Montessori school near Keyana's job when the time comes.
Our Extended Family
We both have average size immediate families each with two siblings. Keyana is the oldest and Mike is the baby of his family. We both have one brother and one sister. Our extended families, however, are huge. Both of our mothers have big families. Keyana has so many cousins that we've lost count! We both have very fond memories of growing up very close to our cousins - Sunday dinners at our grandmothers. Probably the one common thing that our families bond over is FOOTBALL! Keyana's family, in particular, loves football. We own timeshare property and every year we invite family to one of our properties in Orlando, Florida to attend the annual Florida A&M University versus Bethune Cookman University football classic. It's a tradition that we started about three years ago and we always have so much fun! There's card playing, charades, Pictionary, shopping, lots of food, and oh yea...lots of teasing!
Our Family Traditions
We love basketball and football. We have both loved the Los Angeles Lakers since we were kids! Mike is also an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan, while Keyana is an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. We love to travel. Keyana gets to travel quite a bit for work, but of course, there's nothing like getting away for vacation. Most of our getaways end up to Florida to visit family, but Hawaii and Mexico rank as our top two vacations. Fun and sun...you can't beat that!
What Led Us To Adoption
Like most young girls, Keyana always dreamed of getting married and having a family. Well, after marrying her high school sweetheart, half of the dream was complete. We both wanted a family and began trying a few years later. After a couple years of trying, we decided to see a fertility specialist. We went through several IVF cycles and experienced three miscarriages. Despite the challenge to get pregnant, our desire to be parents and have a family never went away. We recently fostered a newborn baby girl for about 3 weeks and our passion grew even stronger. It was this experience that made it clear that it wasn’t at all about birthing a child, but loving a child. We have plenty of love to give and adopting will provide us this opportunity.
