Thank you so much for taking the time to read our family’s profile. We can’t pretend to imagine all you are going through right now and the hard decisions you are faced with. We do know that it is an unbelievable show of love for your child and an amazing act of unselfishness. Just the fact that you are here reading this shows amazing courage. I imagine you are so torn over your decision to do right by your baby. Hopefully after reading our family profile you will have a better idea of the type of family we are and would be to your child. We pray we do a good enough job introducing you to our family that you would consider learning more about us and possibly entrusting us with your child.
Through the years we have seen mothers without options and how hard it can be for them. We know that sometimes life isn’t what you thought it would be and hard decisions must be made. Our hope has always been that we could be an option to a mother; that we could be an answer to that hard decision.
Our desire to adopt has been apart of us both for a very long time (high school). Long before we married we knew if given the opportunity we would pursue it. We have been married for quite some time now and we have a very strong marriage and family. We aren’t perfect but we truly believe that we have the love a child needs and would thrive under; not just as a couple, but as a family with brothers and sisters who would absolutely adore them. We have three children, two who are biological (Josiah and Audriana), and the youngest (Temperance) who was our blessing and miracle through adoption. It has been four years now and we are all so excited for another opportunity to adopt.
We met at a wedding of mutual friends in Florida. Kourtney was still in high school and Joe was a freshman in college. We went our separate ways, but kept in touch through letters and long phone conversations. It didn’t take long to realize we were in love and two years later, we were married. We finished up school while working in an inner-city ministry in Philadelphia where we worked with the youth. After we were done with school we moved closer to family and helped a church youth group in Oregon for a few years. During that time we had our son Josiah. About a year later, we moved to Missouri where we were living until recently. Joe became a pastor of a church there. It was a small church and over the years we were there it grew tremendously. While there our daughters were both born (Audriana and Temperance). During this time, we had amazing people there who supported us in our adoption as well as adopted themselves. We recently have moved to a different state were Joe continues to be a pastor. We have had the amazing opportunity of meeting new people and getting to explore a whole new place.
Joe is an amazing man and father. He is full of energy and very fun to be around. He loves his God, his family and his job. He will do anything for all his children. Whatever they need he will be there and if they have a desire to do something he is there teaching or showing them how to be the best they can at it. He is a family man and very devoted to all of us. He has a heart for people and has had the privilege of going on mission trips to help those in third world countries. Some have been medical based others have been building projects for orphanages. He is a pastor of a church and that keeps him busy, but he always makes time for his family. Joe also loves to hunt and fish and enjoys working out with Josiah.
To Kourtney faith and family are the most important things. She is a stay-home mom who has spent many years home-schooling the kids. Giving the kids a firm foundation in education and faith is very important to her and one she takes very seriously. She absolutely loves children of all ages. She has spent many years in charge of the church nursery and loves every minute of it. She also is very concerned with her family’s health and makes sure they all maintain a healthy lifestyle. She loves exercise and playing outside in the sun with the kids. She loves to read. There are always multiple books lying around the house. Family vacations and spending time together are very important to her. She is always trying to figure out the next place to vacation.
Josiah is our oldest and is a senior at the public high school. He is an amazing kid and a lot fun to be around. He loves to wrestle and will be wrestling in college next year. He helps out at church in whatever way he can and is great with younger kids. When he has down time he loves to play video games, play his guitar, and watch movies with the family. (Usually a cartoon with his youngest sister!)
Audriana is an 8th grader and an amazing young girl. She loves to sing and does so at our church. She enjoys swimming, horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking, and exploring- basically anything outside. She just recently started volleyball and is very excited about playing. She loves almost all animals and our little dog is in love with her!
Temperance is our youngest and full of energy and fun. She loves being outside and is quite the hiker. When she can’t be outside riding her bike or playing any longer she loves to watch TV with her brother or sister. They can be seen watching all sorts of silly kid cartoons with her. She talks about her new brother/sister all the time and can’t wait until the day we get to adopt again.
We have been totally blessed with our home. We have a beautiful home with an absolutely gorgeous view of the mountains from our backyard. We love to go out at night and stargaze. We have no back neighbors so it is very private. We also have a pool that we spend a lot of time in. Our house is a two-story home with all the bedrooms upstairs. We have multiple living spaces downstairs with one of the rooms right by the kitchen. It makes for a great place to talk, make dinner and relax. The neighborhood is very quiet and great for kids, with many trails and parks to explore. The community we are in is very active and has a love for the out of doors. The area we are in has some of the best schools for education and sports. There are many hospitals and colleges/universities around. It is very multi- cultural here which was extremely important to us. We absolutely love it here!
Our Extended Family
All of our family is extremely close to each other. Both of us were blessed with great families growing up and we enjoy being around all of them when we can. We are closer in miles to Kourtney’s immediate family. A few years after we moved her family joined us not wanting to miss out on being near the grandchildren. Joe’s family all live on the East coast. We travel back and forth to see each other throughout the year. Joe’s dad usually comes down in the spring to see Josiah wrestle at he State Tournament.
Kourtney is the oldest of three children. She has two brothers that she is very close to. The youngest brother is married with four children. We are all very close to her family and spend most holidays and family vacations together. We absolutely love our nephews and the cousins love getting together. We have great times together on vacation and are always planning fun places to go that the kids will enjoy. The rest of Kourtney’s family lives in Oregon. Her grandparents will also join us for vacations. It is always a special time. They get to spend time getting to know grandkids and great grandkids.
Joe is the second out of four children. He has two brothers and a younger sister. All of them are married with children. Unfortunately because of the distance we are unable see them as much as we would like. When we are able to all get together we have an amazing time! A lot of communication is done through Internet and phone.
Our Family Traditions
The great thing about our family is that no matter where we are or what we are doing, we are enjoying each other. We don’t take seeing each other for granted. Thanksgiving and Christmas are always great holidays because we all meet at grandma and grandpa’s house. Grandma is an AMAZING cook and makes way too much food. We do typical family things I would imagine: Watch movies, play games, eat a lot, and then eat some more! Grandpa has a special place to play video games so all the grandkids; uncles and even grandpa go and play.
Our vacations are always as a big family. We find a spot we all want to see and meet there for a few weeks of fun. We have been able to go to some pretty great places. It’s a great time for everyone to catch up on what is going on in each other’s lives. We are also able to spend time with our kids away from everything, which is fabulous. Life is a busy thing and to spend that extra time with your kids is a blessing and something we don’t want to miss out on. We make it a priority to take vacations; not just for fun, but for our family.
What Led Us To Adoption
We have talked a lot about our family in the hopes that you will see us for who we are. We are not a perfect family by any means and we make mistakes all the time, but we love and forgive each other. Our desire to adopt is rooted in the knowledge, that although we are not perfect we love each other and every one of our children to the best of our ability. We do not care about the biology of it. Each child has been given to us in a different and equally amazing way. The same would be said if we were to be blessed with your child. Your child would feel loved and cherished everyday; and have their spiritual, emotional, and physical needs met to the best of our ability. They will know that we love them unconditionally and they will ALWAYS know that they belong in our family.
