We cannot even begin to imagine what a difficult decision this is for you. Not only have you made the incredibly difficult decision to create an adoption plan, but you are now faced with choosing adopted parents for your baby. We cannot imagine what this must be like for you. We want you to know that in our home, your child will always know what a selfless, compassionate, and loving person you are. We know that you are making this decision out of love for your child, and we truly believe this is the greatest act of selflessness. There could be no greater gift to us, but we are aware that it comes at a great loss to you. We want your baby to know all about you. We want her to know that you love her. We want her to know that you made this decision for her despite the sacrifice you would have to make. We want you to be part of your baby’s life story. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. Let us introduce ourselves: We are Jim, LeAnna, and our 9-year-old son Austin. Jim and LeAnna are both 38 years-old. We have been married for nearly 15 years! We met in New-England when we were both in college. We fell in love and were married the following year. We have built a wonderful life together and have been blessed in many ways. The greatest blessing is our son, Austin. He makes us laugh, cry, and act like kids again. We love spending time together as a family.
Jim grew up in Massachusetts. He is an only child, and swore he would not make his son an only child too. He loves to learn! It is not unusual to catch him watching an educational film or a college class online. He is extremely skilled in many areas, which come in handy when we need something fixed. Jim loves to have fun! He is very active. He just ran his second marathon this past weekend, and plans to run another one in the fall. When he sets his mind to something, he will accomplish it! Jim has a great sense of humor and often sends Austin into uncontrollable fits of laughter. He loves to give, and can often be found researching what charities or organizations are most in need of volunteers or donations. LeAnna grew up in Nebraska and is the youngest of 4 children. She is very close to her family, most of which live in town. She loves to spend time with them. She loves music and theater and even studied it for a while in college. She also enjoys being active and being outdoors. She has a soft spot for animals and is always looking for ways to help provide a better life to animals that might be lost, abused, or in need of a new home. She loves to do home improvement projects (or at least loves the finished product). She loves taking care of her family and can’t wait to have a little girl to love as well. When we met, we lived in New England and every weekend was like a vacation! We would go to the ocean, Cape Cod, to see the fall leaves, snowboarding, the White Mountains, Boston, Newport, RI, etc. We just had so much fun! What a great way to start a relationship and a marriage! One of our favorite things to do together is laugh!
We live in a lovely suburb of Omaha, Nebraska. It is the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. Everything we need is close by, but we only need to drive 10 minutes to be out in the country, or at the local lakes. We enjoy all 4 seasons here so we get to experience everything! We get beautiful May flowers, awesome summer boating, apple picking at the local fall orchards and pumpkin patch, and sledding/skiing in the winter! We quite possibly have the most beautiful sunsets in the USA! We live in a fantastic school district. The High Schools rank as some of the top in the nation each year. We live near several playgrounds and a reservoir that we frequently visit for walks, runs, or bike rides. Austin’s best friend lives next door, and on good weather days, you will find all the neighborhood kids outside playing together. We prepared our nursery 3 years ago, and it is adorable! All it lacks is the little baby to put inside it! In the meantime, our cats have made good use out of it. We frequently find them sleeping in the crib, on the changing table pad, or in the rocking chair. Good thing we love our cats!
Our Extended Family
We are lucky to have an incredible extended family, many of which live near-by. LeAnna’s parents and 2 brothers (with their families) all live in the same city as we do. They are some of our best friends. The cousins love to get together and play. We truly love our family! Our oldest niece is actually married now and has 2 little girls of her own. Her little baby girls would make excellent playmates for our baby girl! LeAnna’s parents are the best grandparents a kid could ask for! They have spent every Monday with Austin since he was born. They pick him up from school and take him to eat unhealthy food and do fun things. This would continue with our baby girl as well. She would have special one-on-one time with her Grandparents each week. They also have a jet-ski, so we spend a lot of time with family at the lake each summer. The cousins love to swim and play together, and the adults read books and soak up the sun. It’s a pretty nice way to spend the summer. Jim’s family lives in New England, and although we met and fell in love there, it is now far away so we do not get to see them as much as we’d like. But, they are always remembering Austin for birthdays, Christmas, etc. But, it is fun to go visit them and reminisce about our early years as a couple in New England. Jim’s family is small, as we mentioned he is an only child, but they deeply installed in us a love for the New England Patriots NFL football team! We host a super bowl party every year which is loads of fun!
Our Family Traditions
We love to celebrate all the major holidays! We are lucky to be able to spend Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving with extended family each year. LeAnna’s mom is an excellent cook, and that makes each holiday that much better! As a family, we love to be together just the 3 of us (hopefully soon to be 4). We love to hike mountains, swim beaches, travel, and explore what the world has to offer! We feel we grow closer as a family when we spend time together, whether it is on an exciting trip, playing a board game together at home, or just goofing off together and having fun! One of our favorite traditions is our gratitude jar. During the year, as we catch each other doing kind or thoughtful things for us, we secretly write those things down on a piece of paper and put it in a jar. On Christmas Eve, we get out the jar and everyone gets to read the things that were written to them throughout the year. It is a wonderful way to express gratitude and strengthen relationships.
What Led Us To Adoption
We have talked casually about adoption for many years. As a child, LeAnna would tell her parents that one day she might want to adopt. But, we never seriously considered it until it was very clear that we would never be able to have another child on our own. We wanted Austin to have a sibling, and began the process of having another child. Unfortunately, LeAnna had some health issues that made it impossible for us to have any more children. Upon learning the news, we immediately decided that adoption was the right things for us. That was nearly 4 years ago. At the very beginning the thought of adopting was an exciting idea. Little did we know how difficult it really is….For us, and for you. We have learned a great deal as we have been preparing for this little life to enter the world and join our family. More than ever we have a great respect for you, and other birthparents that sacrifice so much so that their children can have what they cannot provide. We have been going through the adoption process for quite some time, and all of us (including Austin) are extremely excited and eager to have our new beautiful baby girl in our arms!
